☔🌧️☀️🌞⛱️St. Swithins Day.☔🌧️☀️🌞⛱️

Sadly, cos it’s a poem we all know and people do believe it, there is no truth to it at all.
According to UK Met Office (hahaha) there is no evidence that there has ever been 40 consecutive days of rain or sun in July since records begun. So today is about the only day you go out with a brolly and some sun cream!!

Today originated in England in the Middle Ages and is filled with folklore and anticipation of what the weather will be like today. It is named after St. Swithin, who was the Bishop of Winchester during the 9th century and was noted for his kindness.

Over time, St. Swithin's Day became an important part of English culture, and people still look at the skies and think what it’s going to be. People go and visit his grave, which is outside, as he wished, so the rain could fall on it.

What are your thoughts on the old folklore rhyme? Do you take notice of it or treat it as a bit of fun?

Today, post all things relating to the weather, be it rain or sun, and let’s hope for some sun.
