Think of one of the most clever, intelligent, obedient, loyal, easily trained, fun, alert, gorgeous dogs around, and it’s their day today.
It’s World Collie Day, and what a day to celebrate!

I know I am biased, but to me you can’t get a more fun, intelligent and fantastic dog than a border collie. There is something about them.
We have had at least 10, and apart from one, they have all been mad and great fun. Although I would add they don’t make good pets, you need a lot of patience and time with them, and they need something to do, not just lay around looking pretty. They need to keep that brain active, or they are trouble!!

Today, those who love these dogs can give them a little extra fun and love, maybe teach them a new trick (before breakfast) and then take them for a special run somewhere like the beach, etc.

Collies are renowned for their bonding with people and for their agility skills, but they are used as assistance dogs as well, both for children and adults alike.
They originally came from Scotland and the north as the farmers used them for herding sheep, and Queen Victoria saw one when she was on holiday there and brought one back, and the rest, they say, is history!
There is nothing a collie likes more than helping!! But they also have their own rules !!

Once you own a collie, you will want more, and more and maybe more!!

To celebrate today, go and watch a collie at work, herding sheep (or anything else) if you can, go to a rescue centre and sponsor one or even adopt one, if you have the time and patience, or just appreciate those that you see.
