🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛National Black Cat Appreciation Day

All cats are great, but there is something really special about a black cat.
Today is National Black Cat Appreciation Day, and it's a day to get to know more about black cats and to give them the appreciation they so well deserve.

In Ancient Egypt, cats were highly revered for their skill in hunting vermin and were treated as royalty, a fact they have never forgotten!!  However, black cats fell from favour because of a stupid superstition that they brought bad luck.

In Celtic mythology, it was thought that the fairies would take on the form of a cat, and when they entered a village or a home, they brought nothing but good luck. However, the pilgrims that came after them were religious and afraid of pagan beliefs, so black cats fell from fairies’ cats to witches’ cats, and a symbol of evil and bad luck. Anybody found keeping a black cat was punished, and the poor animal was killed.
To this day, there are people who will not have a black cat. They are the most difficult to rehome, and there are always loads in shelters cos of these ancient beliefs!

I think that is so sad. Poor little thing.

I am fortunate enough to have always had at least one black cat, and I can’t imagine not having one. To me they outshine any cat for character and personality. They are lovable, intelligent and if you are lucky enough to get one that is half siamese, they are very talkative!!

I have both hands up!

So, today, let’s pamper our black cats, and maybe even adopt one, as they are exactly the same as any cat but a different colour!  Please do give them a chance, and I guarantee you won't regret it.

So very true

Post all things black cat related, and let us know your thoughts on them, or even if you are lucky enough to have at least one.
