There aren't many who don't know instantly what that music represents. Yes, it's Star Wars Day!

I am not sure what it is about Star Wars that appeals to so many of us, and it is still around today. In fact, another new one is due out in 2 years ’ time.
The first (or the last) A New Hope was released in 1977, followed by  The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, and The Return of the Jedi in 1983. 
I don’t think that when these were made, George Lucas had any idea at all of the impact it would have on people, and how much they would love it, and continue to do so.  

In 1977, Star Wars grossed worldwide $307.26 million, making it the highest earner for that year. 

Following the release of the first film, toys started to appear. Their marketing was excellent. I mean, you could buy almost anything to do with Star Wars, from a spaceship to a small figure, or even some 12-inch dolls.  Conventions were held, and still are, and a lot of the toys, etc., became quite valuable as children and adults alike started to collect them. You used to see the toys everywhere, and could pick them up from a boot sale for next to nothing, but all of a sudden, they were worth money, and the best went to auctions. I mean, what child, then or now, wouldn’t love these to play with?

I loved the original films, but never kept up with the modern ones, and from the bits I have seen, to me, they don't have the same appeal. I can still watch the films and enjoy them. They had everything: special effects, a story, space battles, great characters,  and a love story. What else do you need? 
One of my favourite characters was Yoda. He spoke so much sense, and gave such great advice and was lovable.

Today, let's go back to that era, and have some Star Wars fun, and join others in celebrating this worthwhile day. As Yoda would say, “A fun day, have you will”!
