❄️🌧️🧤🧣We Are Getting Close To Winter❄️🌧️🧤🧣

We are approaching Winter Time, with all that it holds.
It can be a nice, sunny, cold day, or it can be wet, dull and cold. One thing is for sure: it will be cold.

Well, winter starts officially on the 21st/22nd December, the winter solstice, and the official winter months are December, January, and February. The astronomical definition of winter starts on the winter solstice and lasts til the spring equinox, about 20th March. 

We don’t seem to get the cold winters we used to get, or the amount of snow. The last bad winter I can remember was 2010, when we had a lot of snow, it was cold, and lovely to take the dogs for a walk. It is great where we live. You look out onto newly fallen snow and no footprints, unless a bird, a fox or some sort of wildlife has gone through. 
When we were kids, prior to central heating, there used to be ice pattens on the inside of the windows, and to keep warm, it was to chuck another coat on the bed!! 
The worst winter I can remember vaguely, as I was a toddler, was 1952, the great smog caused by coal fires, pollution and a cold winter. It started on 5th December and lasted 5 days, killing approximately 12,000 people, and when they say you couldn't see a hand in front of you, that is exactly what it was like.

The coldest in Britain was 1962/63 and was called The Big Freeze. Even the sea froze in some places, and temperatures went down to -20 °C in some places. It was the coldest since 1740!

Being practical, we need to prepare for Winter, in case of bad weather, and make sure there is adequate fuel for your heating, and food in the cupboard, just in case you can't get out. And don’t forget some candles in case of a power cut!! We have been snowed in twice in 30-plus years, and there is something nice about it, actually, for a few days.     

So, do you like Winter? Some people love a nice frosty morning, although it does look lovely with a bit of sunshine.
