πŸŽΆπŸŽΌπŸŽ΅πŸŽ™οΈ A Brief History Of The Jukebox πŸŽΆπŸŽΌπŸŽ΅πŸŽ™οΈ

National Juke Box Day is on the 26th of November this year.
I am sure most of us remember jukeboxes in their heyday and they do have happy memories.

The word Jukebox conjures up songs of the 50's and 60's.  They were around in Cafes, Bars, and Pubs to name a few places. Everybody loved them, and would think nothing of putting money into the machine and pressing the right buttons for their favourite song of the moment.

The original jukebox was a lovely piece of work, but has changed a lot since their early days.  They are still about but not so popular as they were cos now you can carry your favourite tunes with you anywhere on your mobile phone.  Not quite the same to me, as dancing around a jukebox.

The first jukebox was invented in 1899 by two guys, Louis Glass and William S. Arnold, and it was the first coin-operated music player. The name came from the 1900s, when they were jook joints or juke houses where people went for a drink and listened to music.
The jukebox soared in popularity from the 30's to the 70's, and I remember them well as a youngster, and even older in our local pub.

In 2010, Touchtunes changed it all with touch screens, mobile apps, etc.
In 2017, they made today National Jukebox Day, where you can get together and share your jukebox memories, and play songs through their apps to win prizes! The date falls on the day the first Jukebox was invented, and is there to evoke happy memories of days gone by.

Not my idea of a Jukebox !!

To celebrate the jukebox era, see if you can find somewhere that has a jukebox, a coffee bar, club, or pub and sit and play some of the music that made them so popular.

Happy listening!
