1️⃣2️⃣Welcome to 12th Night1️⃣2️⃣
Well, Christmas and New Year are over, and we are now into January, the 5th January to be exact. It marks the end of the 12 days of Christmas and is the eve of Epiphany, a night of feasts, plays and entertainment, and also the night the Christmas decorations should be down by, or it will bring back luck, they say.
As 12th Night is also associated with a play by William Shakespeare, we are going to have a look at his life and some of his more well-known plays. He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon on 23rd April 1564 and died on 23rd April 1616 at the age of 52. He spent his life living in Stratford-upon-Avon.
He is regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and is often called England’s National Poet and the Bard of Avon, or just the Bard. His plays have been translated into every major language and are performed more than any other writer.
His plays fall into 3 categories: comedies, history and tragedy.
Some of his most famous plays are Anthony and Cleopatra, Julius Caesar, Macbeth, Richard 3rd, and Romeo and Juliet.
