Numbers seem to rule our life. Everything has a number, even us, we have an NHS number, a hospital number, and even  our birthday is a number !!  We can't get away from it.  I dislike being known as a number .

We want  to know the time, it's numbers, we learnt numbers at an early age, and can recite our timnes tables parrot fashion. We play cards they have numbers on them, as do dice, you make a phone call you use numbers and then told you are number so and so in a queue.  Most houses have numbers, and our post code has numbers in it.  Money is known by numbers, a five pound note, which is broken up by numbers i nto so many pennies, pounds etc. etc.   We weigh things in numbers.  When we can’t sleep we count blooming sheep !!

We do maths in numbers, some use an Abacasss, some a Calculator and some their brains, there are tricks with numbers to make life easier.

Numbers can also be lucky as in lucky number 7 or unlucky 13. 666 is the mark of the Beast from the book of Revelations and is often used as the mark of the devil.  Certain numbers are supposed to be magic not sure why.

The main question is, how on earth did numbers originate. Did somebody stand talking to another person and suddenly say oh there are 2 of us !!  Who knows !!  Who decided that 1 and 1 made 2 or that twice ten is 20 !! There are a lot more things goverened by numbers which we can discuss on the thread.
