🫏🫏🫏It’s Donkey Week🫏🫏🫏
This week is a chance to remind people of a Donkey’s role in society all over the world, and the work they have done, and still do for mankind.
They have worked for man for thousands of years, all over the world, and even the Holy Mary is portrayed as riding into Bethlehem on a Donkey. They have played an important part in agriculture and in wartime as well. They are still used in some places for work on the land.
They are very intelligent animals and full of fun and eager to please, and because of this, a lot are neglected and abused and end up in rescue centres. We have some in a rescue centre near us, lovely creatures, but some have got sad tales to tell.
Fortunately, the laws for working donkeys have improved. As a child, not knowing any better, I used to love a donkey ride along the sands. These animals were worked all day in hot weather, and no break, but not now, although they are a tradition of the seaside, they are only around on certain beaches and are regulated a lot more, so they are treated well.
To celebrate this week, why not visit a donkey sanctuary and say hello?
Adopt or sponsor a donkey at a sanctuary; it costs you less per week than buying a cup of coffee out. If you are lucky enough to see any in fields, take them a carrot and fuss them; they will love that.
So today, post all things donkey-related, and let’s enjoy some donkey fun!
