St Andrew’s Day In Bonnie Scotland
Yes, today is St Andrew’s Day, the saint’s day for many countries, including Scotland, so it gives us a little excuse to pop North of the border, to the land of highland cattle, bagpipes, and some very spectacular scenery!
I definitely left a piece of my heart in Scotland, where some of my ancestors hailed from. I loved my time living up there, just a few minutes walk from a beautiful mile-long sandy beach.
The seawater is so clear, and the wildlife is plentiful! I came very close to seals and porpoises while swimming in the sea.
And I used to walk for miles across the heather moors with just a dog and the sea birds for company - my kind of heaven!
And Scotland has so much history, too!
The Calanais Stones are older than Stonehenge.
You can just hear the skirl of those bagpipes in the glens!
Edinburgh is a beautiful city, and a UNESCO World Heritage site, with the castle perched on the natural volcanic rock outcrop.
It is one of the oldest fortified sites in Europe, and Iron Age people built a hill fort on the site initially.
Anyway, enough of me eulogising about this wonderful country…
Let’s spend some time today enjoying all things Scottish, including any music to fit the theme, be it Scottish songs or songs by Scottish artists.
Happy St Andrew’s Day, everyone!
